Akihabara is otherwise known as Electric town and on Sundays it's "be as freaky as you can town" If you want humorous shots or portraits that you'll never find anywhere else this is the place to go.
It's only 2 or 3 stations from Tokyo station so not a far treck. I recommend to all photographers to make a pit stop here sometime in your life.
