I thought I'd start off my bird series. I promised another am3 member that I'd post the pictures of birds that I took in Australia. This am3 person has been the inspiration for most of these pictures so if you know who you are here's a very big thanks to you.
I hope all of you enjoy the pictures. I've cropped some of them to add the effect of what I saw in my head I hope it isn't too much.
Enjoy the show folks.

@am3 person: Hey "am3 person" I was hoping you'd be the first to comment on my page. I'm glad you had a look. Since you're an avid bird watcher maybe you can shed some light on the birds and raptors that I'll post.
This shot is one of my favorite about birds. Brilliant!

@Angry Buddha: Thanks mate. I wasn't really going for the detail on the feathers I wanted it more for the head but thems the breaks huh!! Oh well I'm glad you like it though.
Sharp eye! Very cool image.

@Jen: Thanks mate. Your light bird was impressive too!!
Really love the sharpness and clarity on this one, Kelly. Great colours, and cropping. I've been finding it really tough to get good shots of birds. I might take 20 shots and only one is good, esp at a distance. You must've been about a mile away at 300mm! Nicely done mate!

@Stu: Thanks Stu-san, I think the trick with taking shots of birds is the light factor. If you've got a steady hand that really helps aswell. My advice is to use a pretty high iso as it is during the day and your noise will almost be non-exsistant and try to get the shutter speed as high as possible without sacrificing the ev value too much. That way you can get really clear shots even with a little shake of the hand.
Believe me at 300mm a little shake shows alot in the picture.
Good work mate. The thing I like about this one is colour more than anything else. The colour of the trees in the background and the bird are just perfect. I'm glad you didn't play with the saturation mate.

@Darren: You know what, recently the name of my blog doesn't really hold true to what I want to do with my pictures. Just like the mullet it came and went. So was my fascination with supersaturation. I find that my pictures benifit more just from shadows and highlights. Thanks mate.
This one is great, I look forward to the rest of the series.

Best guess, as my library isn't deep enough to include Australian raptors: Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua), courtesy of- http://members.aol.com/hawkequip/australianraptorcentre/gallery1.html

magnificent creature. the crop is fine Kelly, it really accentuates the diagonal of his/her posture well. Nicely processed, with the green proving a wonderfully subtle canvas.
