This little raptor was a smart little cookie. Supposedly it was first told to the early Australian settlers that this bird was smart enough to get a rock and throw it on an egg thus breaking it and devouring the contents.
But this was unbelievable to those who settled in Australia but the day I took this photo proved otherwise. The bird actually jumped down away from the trainer and picked up a rock off the ground and threw it down on the egg.
It took a couple of goes for him to get it open but I got the shot I wanted!!! If you look closely he's just broken the emu egg.
For those who maybe a little offended with the emu egg being broken rest assured it wasn't a real one. It was probably made out of ceramic and inside were pieces of meat no yummy yolk.
Enjoy ya'll.

I'd like to find a ceramic meat egg myself =D...but that is a fantastic shot! I love how you captured the rock splatter...it gives a sense of motion and impact in a very still and very clear photo =D

I have been to such shows and I know how hard it is to get the right moment on camera. Therefore I am more in amaze at how good your shot is! Excellent.

Fantastic photo! Interesting that you used ISO 400 and a really fast shutter speed. I was told by someone, with a Canon Digital Rebel, that the full size pictures were grainy looking for printing. How are yours when they come out of the camera? Think I'll try that - seem to have done a lot of birds the past couple of months. Anyway, your Raptor is a wonderful shot - really well done!

I am so impressed with this one! What incredible timing. It's so sharp I can see bits coming off the 'egg' as the stone hit it. It looks amazing against the blurry background. This bird series is fantastic!
