Smart little bugger

Posted by Kelly Photography (Tokyo, Japan) on 2 February 2007 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

This little raptor was a smart little cookie. Supposedly it was first told to the early Australian settlers that this bird was smart enough to get a rock and throw it on an egg thus breaking it and devouring the contents.

But this was unbelievable to those who settled in Australia but the day I took this photo proved otherwise. The bird actually jumped down away from the trainer and picked up a rock off the ground and threw it down on the egg.

It took a couple of goes for him to get it open but I got the shot I wanted!!! If you look closely he's just broken the emu egg.

For those who maybe a little offended with the emu egg being broken rest assured it wasn't a real one. It was probably made out of ceramic and inside were pieces of meat no yummy yolk.

Enjoy ya'll.
